PET Recycling Technology
Waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is collected, shredded, melted, and refined. During PET polymerization, bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) is produced as an intermediate. Melting and solid-state polymerization of recycled BHET (r-BHET) yields chemically recycled PET (C-rPET), which can be used to manufacture new PET products.
Cooperation Toward Sustainability
The production of recycled PET was achieved through collaboration across the LOTTE group: LOTTE Chemical produces the raw materials; LOTTE R&D Center tests the recycled PET’s suitability for packaging; and LOTTE Wellfood, LOTTE Chilsung, LOTTE GRS, and Korea Seven handle marketing, sales, and management of products using recycled PET packaging. This group-wide effort exemplifies LOTTE’s commitment to creating a positive cycle advancing sustainability.
